MBC Brand Identity Guidelines v1.0

The Brand Operating System

This is not a logo guide. This is a brand operating system. Every visual, verbal, and behavioral decision MBC makes flows from this document. It defines how we look, how we sound, and how we move.

1. Brand Manifesto

We are Maputo Bridge Capital.

We do not have a logo. We have a bridge. A bridge between US capital and Mozambican soil. A bridge between satellite data and farmer credit. A bridge between the 95% informal economy and the formal financial system.

Our brand is not designed. It is generated. Generated by NDVI satellite data from 400km above Earth. Generated by M-Pesa transactions flowing through mobile phones. Generated by farmer credit scores and repayment rates. Generated by reality, not by a design agency.

When crops thrive, our bridge rises. When drought strikes, our bridge shows stress. When M-Pesa flows, our bridge pulses with life. When farmers repay, our pillars grow strong.

We do not hide our margins. We publish them. We do not hide our risks. We name them. We do not fake our traction. We show pilot-phase honestly. We do not promise returns. We show the data.

We are not a lending platform. We are the Bloomberg Terminal for African agriculture. We are the bridge. And the bridge is the data.

--- Maputo Bridge Capital, 2026

2. The Logo: Bridge Between Two Worlds

Concept

The MBC logo is a bridge. Not a wordmark. Not a symbol. A structural metaphor for what the company does: connecting US institutional capital to Mozambican smallholder farmers.

Logo Elements

Left Pillar (Bridge Gold #D4A537) Represents US institutional capital. Height determined by farmer credit scores. When farmers are creditworthy, the pillar is tall and capital flows confidently.

Right Pillar (Earth Brown #6B4423) Represents Mozambican farmers and their land. Height determined by repayment rates. When farmers repay, trust grows and the pillar strengthens.

Bridge Arch (Dynamic Color) The connection between capital and land. Curvature determined by NDVI satellite crop health. When crops are healthy (NDVI 0.7+), the bridge is high and arched. When crops are stressed (NDVI below 0.3), the bridge flattens.

Data Pulse Dots (Mobile Blue #1A5C8E) M-Pesa transactions visualized as pulses traveling across the bridge. Each dot represents a real transaction: a farmer receiving capital or repaying a loan.

Base Line (Night Black #0D1117) The land. The ground beneath everything. The dark earth of Mozambican soil from which all value grows.

Logo States

The logo exists in four states, each reflecting real agricultural data:

| State | NDVI Range | Color | Arch | Pillars | Pulse | Mood | |---|---|---|---|---|---|---| | Thriving | 0.70+ | #1a7a3a | High arch | Tall, strong | Fast | Prosperous | | Healthy | 0.50-0.69 | #2D8B4E | Moderate arch | Solid | Steady | Stable | | Stressed | 0.30-0.49 | #D4A537 | Low arch | Weakening | Slower | Cautious | | Critical | Below 0.30 | #C44E2A | Flat arch | Short | Slow | Urgent |

Logo Usage Rules

  1. Never use a static version. The logo should always reflect current data state.
  2. Never change pillar colors. Gold is always capital. Brown is always farmers.
  3. Never remove the pulse dots. They represent real M-Pesa transactions.
  4. Minimum size: 120px wide for digital, 1.5 inch for print.
  5. Clear space: Equal to the height of one pillar on all sides.
  6. Background: Always on Night Black (#0D1117) or white. Never on patterns or photos.

3. Color System

Core Colors (Always Present)

These five colors are the foundation. They never change. They appear in every brand asset.

| Color | Hex | RGB | Meaning | Usage | |---|---|---|---|---| | Bridge Gold | #D4A537 | 212, 165, 55 | Capital, wealth, the bridge | Left pillar, accents, highlights | | Earth Brown | #6B4423 | 107, 68, 35 | Land, soil, agriculture, grounding | Right pillar, textures, farmer-facing | | Satellite Green | #2D8B4E | 45, 139, 78 | NDVI, crop health, growth, nature | Bridge arch (healthy state), data viz | | Mobile Blue | #1A5C8E | 26, 92, 142 | M-Pesa, technology, water, connectivity | Pulse dots, links, transaction viz | | Night Black | #0D1117 | 13, 17, 23 | Terminal, data depth, Bloomberg aesthetic | Backgrounds, base line, data displays |

Dynamic Colors (Change With Data)

These colors shift based on real-time NDVI satellite data. They determine the bridge arch color and the overall brand mood.

| State | Color | NDVI | Usage | |---|---|---|---| | Thriving | #1a7a3a | 0.70+ | Primary brand color when crops are healthy | | Healthy | #2D8B4E | 0.50-0.69 | Default brand color, moderate crop health | | Stressed | #D4A537 | 0.30-0.49 | Caution state, risk management messaging | | Critical | #C44E2A | Below 0.30 | Emergency state, insurance/crisis messaging |

Price Accent Colors

Commodity price trends determine the accent color used in data visualizations and marketing materials.

| Trend | Color | Meaning | |---|---|---| | Rising | #1a7a3a | Good for farmers selling crops | | Falling | #C44E2A | Sell signal, prices dropping | | Stable | #D4A537 | Hold, market equilibrium | | Volatile | #8B5CF6 | Caution, unpredictable market |

Color Rules

  1. Night Black is always the background for data displays and the terminal.
  2. Bridge Gold is the primary accent for CTAs and highlights.
  3. Satellite Green indicates success, growth, and positive data.
  4. Mobile Blue indicates transactions, links, and technology.
  5. Never use more than 3 dynamic colors simultaneously.
  6. Contrast ratio: minimum 4.5:1 for text, 3:1 for large text (WCAG AA).

4. Typography System

Primary Font: JetBrains Mono

The data font. Used for all numbers, data displays, code, terminal interface, and the wordmark.

Rationale: Monospace signals data precision and the terminal aesthetic. Bloomberg uses monospace for data displays. MBC is the Bloomberg Terminal of African agriculture. Numbers in monospace feel authoritative, precise, and verifiable.

| Use Case | Size | Weight | Style | |---|---|---|---| | Data display (large numbers) | 48px | Bold | Uppercase | | Data labels | 14px | Regular | Uppercase, letter-spacing 2px | | Body data | 16px | Regular | Normal case | | Caption / ticker | 12px | Regular | Uppercase, letter-spacing 1px |

Secondary Font: Inter

The body font. Used for articles, navigation, UI labels, and body text.

Rationale: Clean, modern sans-serif with excellent readability across devices. Pairs perfectly with monospace data displays. Used by Stripe, GitHub, and other technology companies that take typography seriously.

| Use Case | Size | Weight | Line Height | |---|---|---|---| | H1 (article titles) | 48px | Bold | 1.1 | | H2 (section headers) | 36px | Semibold | 1.2 | | H3 (subsections) | 24px | Semibold | 1.3 | | Body | 18px | Regular | 1.6 | | Small | 14px | Regular | 1.5 | | Caption | 12px | Regular | 1.4 |

Accent Font: Space Grotesk

The headline font. Used for hero text, brand statements, and marketing headlines.

Rationale: Geometric but warm. Signals technology without being cold. The slight quirkiness in letterforms adds personality and prevents the brand from feeling robotic.

Typography Rules

  1. Numbers ALWAYS in monospace. Never in sans-serif.
  2. Brand name always in monospace when used as logo substitute.
  3. Data labels always uppercase with letter-spacing in monospace.
  4. Article headlines in Space Grotesk bold.
  5. Body text in Inter regular.
  6. CTA buttons in Inter semibold, uppercase.

5. Brand Voice and Tone

Voice Pillars

Pillar 1: Radical Transparency

We disclose what competitors hide. Fees, risks, data, status.

  • DO: Publish full fee breakdowns, name every risk explicitly, show pilot-phase honestly, display real M-Pesa transaction IDs
  • DON'T: Hide margins, use vague risk language, fake traction numbers, promise guaranteed returns

Pillar 2: Data First

Every claim is backed by data. NDVI, M-Pesa, credit scores.

  • DO: Cite satellite NDVI values, show M-Pesa transaction volumes, use credit score ranges, reference FAO/World Bank data
  • DON'T: Make emotional claims without data, use vague statistics, rely on stock photos of African children, say "millions" without showing the math

Pillar 3: Bilingual Respect

English for investors, Portuguese for farmers. Both with equal depth.

  • DO: Publish key content in both EN and PT, use M-Pesa/xitique/DUAT in Portuguese context, respect local knowledge systems, address farmers as business operators
  • DON'T: Treat Portuguese as an afterthought, use colonial language patterns, patronize farmers, ignore local market names

Pillar 4: Terminal Aesthetic

Bloomberg Terminal confidence. Data-dense, dark, precise.

  • DO: Use monospace fonts for data, dark backgrounds with green/gold accents, show raw numbers not just charts, lead with the metric then explain
  • DON'T: Use fluffy marketing language, pastel colors, generic stock imagery, vague promises

Tone Matrix

| Context | Tone | Opening Pattern | Structure | |---|---|---|---| | Investor communication | Precise, confident, data-saturated | Lead with the number | Data, context, implication, CTA | | Farmer communication | Direct, respectful, practical | Lead with what matters to them | Action, reason, how MBC helps | | Public marketing | Bold, contrarian, proof-driven | Challenge assumptions | Claim, data proof, solution, CTA | | Crisis communication | Calm, transparent, solution-oriented | Acknowledge reality | What happened, what it means, what we're doing |

Vocabulary

Always use: NDVI, M-Pesa, satellite credit scoring, harvest-aligned, Bloomberg Terminal for African agriculture, radical transparency, data-driven

Never use: empower, transform lives, make a difference, underserved communities, bottom of pyramid, beneficiaries, holistic solution

Substitutions:

  • empower becomes enable
  • beneficiaries becomes clients
  • underserved becomes unbanked
  • holistic becomes integrated
  • transform becomes measure

6. Motion System

The MBC brand is motion-first. Five behaviors define how the brand moves:

1. Logo Pulse

Speed proportional to M-Pesa transaction volume. More activity = faster pulse. Quiet platform = calm heartbeat. Duration: 1.0-2.0 seconds. Easing: cubic-bezier(0.4, 0, 0.2, 1).

2. Bridge Breathe

The bridge arch expands and contracts synchronized with NDVI satellite data updates (every 5 days). Healthy crops = deep, calm breathing. Stressed crops = shallow, rapid breathing. Duration: 2.0-4.0 seconds. Easing: ease-in-out.

3. Data Stream Ripple

Every M-Pesa transaction triggers a visual ripple traveling from left pillar to right pillar. Duration: 0.5 seconds. Trigger: on_transaction.

4. Color Shift

When NDVI state changes, primary color transitions smoothly over 0.8 seconds. Not abrupt. Gradual, living evolution. Transition: color 0.8s ease.

5. Data Particle Background

Background particles scale with platform activity. 500 transactions = sparse starfield. 5,000 transactions = flowing data river. Count: mpesa_volume / 100.

7. Social Media Templates

Instagram (1080x1080)

  • Background: Night Black (#0D1117)
  • Subtle data grid overlay at 5% opacity
  • Large bridge logo centered in upper third
  • Headline in monospace, centered
  • Data ticker bar at bottom showing live metrics
  • Website URL in Bridge Gold

LinkedIn Banner (1584x396)

  • Background: Night Black
  • Bridge logo on left third
  • Tagline "The Bloomberg Terminal for African Agriculture" in monospace
  • Data ticker on right showing NDVI, credit score, repayment rate

Twitter/X Header (1500x500)

  • Dark background with bridge silhouette
  • "MAPUTO BRIDGE CAPITAL" in monospace
  • Live data point in corner (current NDVI value)

8. Favicon

Simplified bridge logo on Night Black background. 64x64px base, scales to 16x16 and 32x32. Elements: left pillar (gold), right pillar (brown), bridge arch (green), pulse dot (blue), base line (gold).

9. Brand Architecture

MBC (Master Brand)

The parent brand. Used for all corporate communications, investor relations, and the terminal interface.

Sub-Brands

| Sub-Brand | Color Accent | Use Case | |---|---|---| | MBC AgriSignals | Satellite Green | Commodity price platform | | MBC Grain Saver | Earth Brown | PICS bag program | | MBC Terminal | Night Black + Gold | Data terminal interface | | MBC Carbon Credits | #1a7a3a | Carbon credit platform | | MBC AgriNews | Mobile Blue | News channel | | MBC Ag Index | Bridge Gold | Commodity index |

Each sub-brand uses the bridge logo with its accent color as the bridge arch, while maintaining the core color system.

10. Brand Touchpoints

| Touchpoint | Brand Expression | |---|---| | Website | Dark terminal aesthetic on /terminal, clean light on content pages | | Mobile app | Dark theme primary, data-dense, monospace numbers | | Email | Dark header with bridge logo, clean body, data ticker in footer | | Social media | Dark templates, monospace headlines, data ticker | | Pitch deck | Night Black background, gold accents, data on every slide | | Business cards | Night Black card, gold bridge logo, monospace contact info | | WhatsApp | Bridge logo as profile photo, data-driven status updates | | M-Pesa receipts | Bridge logo watermark, transaction ID in monospace | | Farmer profiles | Provincial brand variant based on their NDVI and credit score | | Investment pages | Data-dense, terminal aesthetic, real numbers |

11. Competitive Differentiation

| Brand | Logo Type | Data-Driven | Motion | Transparency | |---|---|---|---|---| | MBC | Generative bridge (220M permutations) | Yes (5 real-time inputs) | Yes (5 behaviors) | Full (fees, risks, proof) | | Apollo Agriculture | Static | No | No | Hidden (25-30% margins) | | ThriveAgric | Static | No | No | Hidden (20-28% margins) | | UfarmX | Static | No | No | Undisclosed | | AcreTrader | Static | No | No | 1% AUM disclosed |

MBC is the only agricultural platform in the world with a data-driven, generative brand identity. This is not a design choice. It is a strategic moat.
