These terms govern your use of the Maputo Bridge Capital ("MBC") platform and the support services provided by our organization. MBC, founded by Anselmo Boaventura in Fort Worth, Texas, connects sponsors with verified smallholder farmers in the Zambezia region of Mozambique through our partnership with the COJAZ cooperative.

2. Sponsorship Agreement

2.1 Sponsorship Model

Sponsorships are gifts, not investments, and are not tax-deductible. A sponsor gives from $25. The money goes directly to the farmer's local seed and fertilizer shop in Mozambique to ensure the farmer has the necessary resources for the season. The sponsor receives a receipt for the transaction and field photos as verification of the support provided.

2.2 Transparency and Documentation

92% of the sponsorship funds go directly to the farmer's local seed and fertilizer shop, while 8% covers field verification and receipt documentation. MBC works directly with the COJAZ cooperative to ensure that resources reach the intended smallholder farmers.

3. Agricultural Impact and Sustainability

3.1 Seasonal Cycle

For a smallholder farmer, the season begins with the procurement of high-quality seeds and fertilizer. By receiving these inputs early, farmers can plant on schedule, which is critical for maximizing yields before the rainy season concludes. After harvest, the farmer repays the cost of these inputs into a Community Fund, which is then used to sponsor the next farmer in the cooperative.

3.2 Technology and Future Monitoring

While we focus on direct support today, we monitor agricultural research involving advanced technology for future agricultural efficiency. Concepts such as satellite monitoring using Sentinel-2 NDVI data allow for the analysis of crop health and vegetation density across vast distances. Furthermore, drone technology and localized automated weather stations present research directions for predicting drought and yield potential in the Zambezia region. These technologies serve as indicators of how precision agriculture could evolve to benefit smallholder productivity in the future.

Frequently asked questions

What is a smallholder farmer?

A smallholder farmer is an agricultural producer who manages a small plot of land, typically relying on household labor and basic inputs to produce crops for subsistence and local markets.

Why are fertilizers and improved seeds important?

Improved seeds and fertilizers provide the essential nutrients and genetic potential required to increase crop yields, helping farmers move from subsistence farming to a more stable production model.

How does the end of a harvest season affect a cooperative?

The harvest marks the conclusion of the growing cycle, allowing the farmer to repay the cost of inputs. This repayment enables the cooperative to recirculate those funds to assist more farmers in the subsequent season.

4. Dispute Resolution and Governing Law

MBC is committed to transparency. Any concerns regarding the platform or our operations should be directed to our team in Fort Worth, Texas. These terms are governed by the laws applicable to our operations. We maintain documentation of all sponsorships and ensure that field verification is conducted for every farmer supported through the COJAZ cooperative.
