The Context
MBC Portfolio Farmers (Zambézia & Manica) is a maize farm located in Mocuba, Zambézia province, Mozambique. MBC deployed drone surveys across 500+ hectares of smallholder farmland, identifying 40% underutilized land and generating GPS-verified plot boundaries that unlocked $125,000 in new investor capacity.
The Challenge
Investors needed ground-truth verification of 500+ hectares claimed across MBC's farmer portfolio. Satellite imagery provided macro-level NDVI data but couldn't verify individual plot boundaries, crop health variability, or infrastructure conditions. The investment funnel stalled because due diligence couldn't be completed without physical farm surveys — which would take 6+ months and cost $15,000+ in agent travel.
The Implementation
MBC deployed DJI Mavic 3 Multispectral drones across 12 farm clusters in Zambézia and Manica provinces. Each drone flight covered 50 hectares in 22 minutes, capturing 5-band multispectral imagery (RGB + Red Edge + NIR). The data was processed through MBC's NDVI pipeline to generate per-plot health maps, GPS-verified boundary polygons, and infrastructure condition reports. Results showed 40% of surveyed land was underutilized — previously uncultivated or sub-optimally planted. This data was packaged into investor due diligence reports, directly enabling $125,000 in new committed capital. The 'farm drone survey' and 'agricultural surveying drone' keyword clusters now drive 93 monthly Google impressions for MBC content.
