HOW TO USE THIS GUIDE

Each step is ONE PICTURE. No reading needed. Look at the picture. Do what it shows.

Green = DO this. Red X = DO NOT do this. Brown = earth/soil.

STEP 1: THE SEED

PICTURE: An open brown hand holding one single seed. The seed has a small green sprout coming out.

MEANING: One seed = one life. One seed = one plant = many seeds. Start with one.

STEP 2: SMALL PLOT

PICTURE: A square of brown earth, 1 meter x 1 meter. Four small holes with dots inside (seeds). The holes are close together.

MEANING: Plant close. Small space. Many seeds. Do not waste land by planting too far apart.

RED X PICTURE: Same square with only one seed in the middle. Red X over it.

STEP 3: TWO CROPS TOGETHER

PICTURE: Left side: tall green maize plant. Right side: green bean vine climbing UP the maize stalk. Both growing in the same hole.

MEANING: Plant maize AND beans together. Beans climb the maize. Beans feed the maize. Two foods from one hole.

RED X PICTURE: Only maize, alone, looking weak and yellow.

STEP 4: COMPOST PIT

PICTURE: A hole in the ground. Inside: brown leaves, vegetable scraps, animal poop, and water drops falling from a cup. A stick is mixing it.

MEANING: Collect all waste. Leaves, food scraps, animal manure. Put in a hole. Add water. Mix every 3 days.

STEP 5: WAIT 21 DAYS

MEANING: Wait 21 days. The waste becomes black gold. This is your free fertilizer.

STEP 6: THE HARVEST
