Invest in Mozambique's Agriculture Boom
36 million hectares of arable land. $5B+ in approved projects. Zero dedicated US-Mozambique agriculture investment firms — until now.
The Numbers Are Staggering
Mozambique is what investors call an "asymmetric opportunity" — enormous upside, minimal competition, and structural tailwinds that favor early movers.

Building Financial Products on Mozambique's $35B Mobile Money Highway
Mozambique's mobile money infrastructure is built. 25 million accounts. 467,000 agents. $35 billion flowing annually. But the agriculture sector — 81% of the population — has wallets but no financial products. We're building the products that turn a transfer tool into a financial ecosystem for farmers.
The Infrastructure is Done. The Opportunity is What Comes Next.
Mozambique didn't just adopt mobile money — it went all in. In five years, mobile money accounts grew from 11.4 million to over 25 million. Today, 46% of all adults have a mobile money wallet. Nearly half a million agents operate in villages and rural communities across the country. All three major networks — M-Pesa, e-Mola, and M-Kesh — are interconnected through SIMOrede since 2022.
But here's what's missing: financial products for agriculture. Farmers can send and receive money. They cannot access credit based on their transaction history, buy crop insurance against drought and cyclones, get advance financing for seeds and fertilizer, manage cooperative savings transparently, or track produce from farm to market for export certification. That gap is our opportunity — and our existing agribusiness portfolio is the first customer base.
What We're Building
| Product | Description | Capital | IRR |
|---|---|---|---|
| Farmer Credit Scoring | Alternative credit models using mobile money transaction data to score unbanked farmers | $50K-$150K | 25%+ |
| Crop Micro-Insurance | Parametric, weather-triggered insurance paid out via mobile money — protects against drought, cyclones | $100K-$250K | 25%+ |
| Input Financing Platform | Mobile-based lending for seeds, fertilizer, tools — repaid at harvest via mobile money | $100K-$250K | 25%+ |
| Cooperative Savings Wallets | Group fund management for women's cooperatives — transparent savings, shared wallets, audit trails | $50K-$100K | 20%+ |
| Supply Chain Digitization | Farm-to-market tracking for export certification (organic, fair trade, AGOA compliance) | $50K-$150K | 25%+ |
Why This Works
Distribution is already built
467,622 mobile money agents reach the exact rural communities where our agribusinesses operate. No need to build branches or send field agents.
Interoperability eliminates platform risk
Any product we build plugs into all three networks (M-Pesa, e-Mola, M-Kesh) simultaneously via SIMOrede.
Regulation is a tailwind
The National Financial Inclusion Strategy (2025–2031), Fintech Week 2026, and new payment system laws all actively support digital finance innovation.
We have the customer base
Every farmer in our cashew processing, women's cooperative, and solar irrigation portfolio needs these services. Our portfolio IS the market entry.
What We Need
We're seeking $250K in initial agri-fintech capital to:
- Launch a farmer credit scoring pilot with 500 farmers across 3 existing portfolio companies
- Develop a parametric crop insurance product with weather data integration
- Build a cooperative savings wallet for our women's cooperatives (40+ members already active)
Pilot timeline: 6 months to product launch, 12 months to first revenue, 24 months to profitability.
EXPLORE THIS OPPORTUNITYPriority Sectors for 2026-2027
🔹 Agri-Processing & Value Addition
The highest-margin opportunity. Raw cashew nuts sell for $0.50/kg. Processed cashew kernels sell for $8/kg. That 16x value gap is where returns live.
🔹 Climate-Smart Agriculture
The African Development Fund just granted $11M to Mozambique for climate-resilient food security. We deploy alongside government and donor capital — de-risking private investment.
🔹 Aquaculture
AgDevCo invested $15M in Victory Group (tilapia farming in East Africa). Mozambique's 2,700km coastline makes it ideal for aquaculture expansion.
🔹 Women-Led Cooperatives
Women produce over 70% of Mozambique's food but own less than 20% of agricultural businesses. High social impact, strong returns, and underserved by traditional capital.
